“She got pregnant near the end of our relationship.”

“No.”
His voice cracked.

“He wasn’t involved at first.”

She hesitated.
“Yes.”

My daughters had a brother who knew they existed.
They didn’t know he existed.
I nodded because I couldn’t think of anything else to do.
Then I got into the passenger seat.
Jeremy followed a minute later.
Neither of us spoke for most of the drive.
That night, after the girls were asleep, Jeremy told me everything.

I didn’t forgive him that night.
