The first thing that scared me wasn’t hearing that my husband had been coming to the hospital every day.

“Then rest. That’s what the doctor told you to do. Don’t push yourself.”

“But I’m staying with my sister.”

“I don’t know.”
“You said you hadn’t decided about us.”
“I haven’t. But I need space to heal without you deciding what I’m ready to hear.”

“I know. But trying isn’t the same as understanding.”
